Tech writer and Google+ celebrity Mike Elgan is back with John and Nicholas on the final show of the year! They discuss Google’s Santa tracking, new YouTube Capture iOS app, Google+ Communities, renting a Google Fiber apartment, HTC cutting phones and thoughts on what happened in 2012 and what we expect in 2013.
1. Google Tracking Santa Without NORAD
Though NORAD has jumped ship and teamed up with Bing, that hasn’t stopped Google Maps from their traditional Santa tracking. A Chrome extension and Android app are also available this year in Google’s Santa tracking quest. You can also have Santa call a friend.
2. YouTube Capture App For iOS
Google has released a standalone application for iOS users to capture a video and then upload to YouTube.
From Phandorid.com: So, what makes YouTube Capture all that special, and isn’t it the same as uploading from the gallery app on Android devices? Not entirely. With Capture, users can trim and add YouTube’s special video enhancements like video stabilization, color correction, and background music — options previously only available from the desktop version of YouTube on your browser.
3. What’s so great about Google+ Communities
Mike gives his thoughts on the newest big addition to Google’s social network.
4. Rent A Google Fiber Apartment
Will you do anything for faster internet speeds? A Kansas City resident with Google Fiber installed is renting out one room of his house.
5. HTC Cuts Several 2013 Phones
HTC has cut down component orders and also canceled several phones that had been scheduled for early 2013 release. Can HTC come back or are they destined to die at the hands of Samsung?
6. Google’s Highlights Of 2012
This past year certainly was eventful for Google. Nexus tablets and Google Glass were some of the company’s biggest hits in 2012.
