Founded in Scotland, the Home of Golf, Golphin design and make specialized golf equipment to encourage more kids, juniors and families to experience the fun of playing the great game of golf. Founder Calum McPherson, formed a group of golf enthusiasts to challenge the reality that very few young kids under the age of 11 years old are playing golf. Determined to understand the reasons and barriers to golf for young kids, Calum and Team Golphin conducted extensive market research in the UK, Europe, Asia and North America to discover one major common theme – the current offering of golf clubs on the market are too heavy; destroying confidence, fun and enjoyment during the introductory period to golf. To quote one PGA professional interviewed “the clubs swing the kids, rather than the kid swinging the club”
The solution… working with PGA professionals, kids and academia, Golphin invented a light weight golf club with a larger sweet spot to combat this problem. Check out; golphinforkids.com
The clubs (from founder Calum McPherson and creator director David McColm) are well-crafted. The driver heads, for example, resemble miniature versions of driver heads used by contemporary adults.
Golphin aims its efforts at juniors of all ages, with fitting accomplished by height. The audience includes kids as young as 3 or 4, or as old as 10 or 11. They choose suitable clubs from four length categories, which are distinguished by color (orange, lime green, pink and blue). Golphin touts its clubs as being 22 percent lighter than traditional junior clubs, with a 35 percent larger sweet spot.
