A Kidnapping in Chicago

Happy New Year and welcome to episode 38 of Beer & Bros, brothers drinking beer and talking about the news. A lot has happened in the news since our last show. Celebrities have died, people have complained about politics, there have been shootings, and a group of four kidnapped and tortured a man with special needs in Chicago. That last one is the subject of this episode of the show. Join us for about 40 minutes while we discuss the situation and our views on what it means for America.

March on Washington

I don’t know about you, but I think marches on Washington are a good thing. They’re largely peaceful and a great way to make a statement within earshot of actual policymakers – people who can do something about your gripe. Coming up in January, there will be a “Women’s March on Washington.” This is being billed as a rally and they’re making sure to steer clear of the word protest. More on this later, but I will say I expect the event to be largely peaceful, as is generally the case in these situations. Not always.

Church of Scientology

Scientology

There have been a lot of terrible, yet interesting, things in the news this past week — politics, fires, court cases, and more. This week on the show, however, Lyle and I decided to go for a lighter subject. A few weeks ago, my wife and I watched the documentary Going Clear: Scientology and the Prison of Belief. This, combined with Leah Remini being in the news lately discussing her new A&E show, Leah Remini: Scientology and the Aftermath were the impetus for this week’s discussion: Scientology.

The 2016 Presidential Campaign Wrap Up

By the time you read this, Donald Trump will be the president-elect of the United States. Also, if you’re reading this, the world didn’t end. So, there’s that to be proud of. For episode 34 of Beer & Bros., Lyle and I decided to do one last pre-election talk. We also chatted about the results as they were coming in. Have a listen. I really believe this is one of our better discussions.
