Happy 14th Birthday Google
Mashable credits September 4 as the day Page and Brin officially filed for incorporation, while The Washington Post notes that Google used to celebrate its birthday on September 7 (the day the company was actually incorporated). Either way, in recent years the festivities have officially moved to September 27.

Google stocks are way up this week. The debacle of Apple Maps surely hasn’t hurt Google. Many iPhone 5 owners report massive errors in Apple’s new maps application that replaced Google Maps on the iPhone.
2. Google Now 5th Most Valuable U.S. Company
Passing up General Electric, Google is now the fifth most valuable U.S. company with a market cap of $245 billion.
3. Google News Turns 10
Triggered by the events of the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, Google News launched on September 22. Google wanted a place where people could find news from many sources featuring varying opinions. Google News now has 50,000 news sources.

5. Brazil Detains Google Chief Over YouTube Videos
Several YouTube videos triggered Brazilian officials to go after the head of Google’s Brazil office. Some of the videos cast a negative light on a local politician (which is illegal in Brazil) and the other video is the controversial “Innocence of Muslims” film that has sparked outrage around the world.
6. New Field Trip Location App From Google
Field Trip is a new app from Google that alerts you when you are near a location of interest. For example, a famous piece of art or a restaurant featured in a recent Food Network show.
